New River Information Board

A new information board recognising the significance of the pillbox down by the river is now in position. The pillbox, example no.24, is on the opposite bank to the Newton Solney riverbank, at the confluence of the rivers Dove and Trent.

The pillbox, one of thousands erected across the country to protect us from invasion, was mainly used by the Home Guard.

As part of the Transforming the Trent Valley project, the pillboxes are being repurposed as bird and bat sanctuaries.
